Traits

Blight Glide. The polevik can burrow through nonmagical earth and stone. While doing so, the polevik doesn’t disturb the material it moves through. If the polevik moves through the roots of any nonmagical plant that isn’t a creature, the plant withers and dies.

Magic Resistance. The polevik has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.

One with the Fields. The polevik’s skin takes on the color and texture of the earth it last crawled out of. It has advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks made to hide in the environment its skin resembles.

Unstable Core.If the polevik takes thunder damage, its Blight Glide trait doesn’t function and it can’t use Earth Lock until the end of its next turn.

Actions

Multiattack. The polevik makes two slam attacks and uses its Earth Lock.

Slam.Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d6 + 3) bludgeoning damage. If the target is Medium or smaller creature, it is grappled (escape DC 15).

Earth Lock. The polevik smashes a creature grappled by it with a mighty suplex, lodging them in the ground. The target takes 10 (3d6) bludgeoning damage and is considered blinded, restrained, and unable to breathe. The restrained target can make a DC 15 Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) check as an action, freeing itself on a success. Another creature can use its action to make a DC 10 Strength (Athletics) check, freeing the target on a success.

Description

The polevik is a feisty and hateful creature with thick skin—quite literally, as its body is made of stone and dirt, with grass and grains growing out of it. These creatures were once mortal, but were cursed for their greed and banished from the forests, the mountains, and their deep caverns full of natural riches. Left to endlessly scour the fields, their bodies slowly became one with the land. Now, they are known as the poleviks—the one from the field, spiteful spirits of the fields that ruin crops and brawl with anyone who tries to stop their malicious pranks.

Mine or Be Mined. Long ago, a clan of dwarfs were consumed by their desire for precious gems. They overstayed their welcome in the domain of a leshy—a powerful fey spirit, greedily mining deep into the bowels of the earth, carelessly abusing the natural resources, and ruining the balance of the wilds. Not heeding the leshy’s warning, the clan was overtaken by the curse of the forest spirit. They were banished, never to return to their domain. Instead, they would roam the fields forever, experiencing what they had done to the earth itself. Their hearts became large gems, and soon word spread and brave adventurers started hunting the polevik in order to “mine” their precious stones.

Cursed Bodies. The leshy’s curse robbed the poleviks of their ability to enjoy any of the earthly pleasures they once amassed and the riches they greedily acquired—they can’t taste food or drink, nor feel the touch of their beloved. However, they have become as strong and tough as the very earth that forms their bodies.

Though they are solid and durable, there is a drawback when one is made of stone. When hit by thunder damage, their craggy bodies resonate with the vibration, causing them to reverberate to their very core and leaving them temporarily unable to merge with the earth.

Spiteful Brawlers. The life of a polevik is endless and joyless. The only thing left for them to truly enjoy is a good fight. They are formidable wrestlers and revel in a good scuffle. Their signature move is to wrap their solid arms around their opponent, grapple them, and smash their heads into the ground with a mighty suplex.

The polevik’s immense strength allows them to wedge their opponents halfway into the ground, leaving only their legs sticking out, frantically flapping about. That’s the only way they know how to express how bad it feels to be stuck in a field forever.
