Primordial Spirit of Fire

Soon after Svarog bent the trees bare handed and wove them into the Great Hall of Starborn, he knew powerful tools were needed to build upon Creation, and mighty weapons to guard it from that which was unknown in this vast world. So he set himself a grand and noble task, to harness the act of Creation itself and grow it into the Crafts. He built a mighty pyre, its flames reaching the very skies, for Svarog needed embers so hot and great to fuel the forge of a God. As the mighty pyre turned to smoldering embers, and burned for many a long day, Svarog set to make his Anvil. He melted metals of the earth, mixed with crushed shells of the Stars, and poured them into the mould, then set out to the Great Ocean of Rodozem to cool the molten Anvil, for only the deepest and coolest of waters would do.

When Svarog returned with the Great Anvil on his back, the pyre had died down and turned to a sea of smoldering embers. Much to his surprise, he was no longer alone. A mighty bird of flame and smoke had curled over his place of labour. As soon as he approached, the bird arose with a great cry. It spread its fiery wings from horizon to horizon and faced the God with a blazing gaze of warning. Svarog steeled himself ready and dropped the Anvil, shaking the earth mightily. The quake of his anvil rattled the embers and amidst them Svarog saw eggs burning even brighter. He knew then, that was the Primordial Spirit of Fire, in search of a nest hot enough to hatch its progeny, away from the cool waves of the ocean, the wild breath of wind and lightless depths of earth.

Svarog left his hammer upon the Anvil, made a gentle bow, and with his bare hands covered the eggs in burning embers again. The Spirit recognised the God for what he truly was - a burning soul as bright as its own flaming heart. Svarog’s sincere gesture and intent quenched the Spirit’s vigilant wrath, and reassured it that the Bright Smith meant no harm. The Primordial Fire in turn decided to aid him in his godly labour. Night and day Svarog fueled the embers that heated his forge, and thus kept the Fire Spirit’s eggs aflame. Night and day the Bright Smith swung his hammer upon the Anvil, and from the shells of his star Svarog forged a mighty nest. At his behest the Spirit of Fire exhaled its blazing breath upon his creation, melting all parts forever into place. The re-forged star burned anew, with Primordial flame. Svarog carefully gathered the eggs, bare feet and hands into embers, and gently placed them in their new home - The Nest of the Great Spirit of Fire, or as we know it today - the Sun. From that day forth, all knew Svarog as the Everburning Soul of Creation, for it was by the act of creation that he tamed the blazing Great Spirit of Fire.
