Mokesha
Queen of the Gods, Earth Mother, The Great Seer
Domains: Life, Knowledge
Mokesha’s priestesses teach that she is the ever-watching council behind her consort, Perun—if Perun is the bolt of lightning that strikes the earth, Mokesha is what guides it to strike true. The Great Seer’s divination and intuition guides her through the vision of the prime creator Rod, peering through what was, what is, and what will be. Her wise gaze sees the tethers of fate that bind everything in this world, even the Starborn. And although Mokesha cannot change fate, for it is the will of Rod manifested, she has the power to interpret fate and comprehend it like no other. Mokesha is the powerful life-giving force, the very earth that nourishes all living beings.
The goddess has a special place in the hearts of Rodozem’s denizens. Even if one does not follow her teachings, all good creatures love her as a child loves their mother, for she is kind, forgiving, and overflowing with infinite wisdom. For common folk, Mokesha is associated with the power of fertility, but also with the crops, spinning and weaving, and childbirth. People pray to her for countless reasons: for the bloom of season’s growth, for a good harvest, for a healthy birth, and, at times, to entreat the Great Seer to show them their fate.
Temples of the Queen of the Gods are not as common as chapels and shrines, for she is honored in almost every home. To Mokesha goes the first sacrifice of the year, which is usually a domestic animal such as a lamb or a sheep. Its white wool is twined into yarn and ceremoniously dipped in the blood of the animal, coloring it red. The white and red threads are then interwoven by Mokesha’s priestesses and tied around the wrists of all people throughout Rodozem. The white symbolizes goodness and health, while the red signifies sacrifice and life. These handwoven bracelets are traditionally gifted, never bought. Women receive them first, as they are the bearers of all new life, and each woman carries with her the essence and love of the Earth Mother.
