Description

The vihrogon’s name says much about this eminent stallion’s nature: it means “one who chases the wind.” Indeed, it is said to be the fastest mount one can ever hope to acquire. A vihrogon is a magnificent sight—running free, chasing the wind, untamable and unstoppable.

Windchasers. At first glance, nothing hints at the vihrogon’s fey nature—it merely looks like an exceptional steed. However, when it runs, chasing the wind, its true nature is revealed. When these magical stallions gallop, their hooves barely touch the ground, and they can vault over mighty distances. They can even keep their top speed in deep, overgrown forests. It is said that nothing can break the stride of the vihrogon, nor can it be seized—it would be like trying to catch the wind.

Supreme Steeds. Their speed is not the only quality vihrogons possess as superior mounts. The vihrogon has a sharp and adroit mind, understanding the speech of both men and forest folk. When born in the wild, they are hard to catch because of their supernatural speed and cunning, but also because of their shyness. They are free-spirited and value their freedom above all. There are tamed vihrogons, but they are rare. It is said that Baba Yaga keeps a few in her yard, and Kostchei the Deathless himself is said to ride a vihrogon as black as the night. Vihrogons are sought far and wide by heroes, royalty, and mighty mages. To earn the trust of this indomitable fey stallion, one must nurture a bond of mutual trust and kinship. The vihrogon doesn’t easily bond with mortals, but once a person has earned its friendship, it lasts for a lifetime.
